I want to save the environment for I live in a massive valley. I think Wazza the hairy nose wombat is cool and I wish they could be saved. I hate it when any animals die because I feel for everything, some might think that's stupid. I have the quickest showers possible, I have my shower for about 3 or 2 minutes! And my family collects rain water not truck water. I love nature. I'm going to get my teacher to start up the program!!!!!! :) -_-
Corbit, Tallebudgera Valley
Thanks to Green Cross for creating such an excellent resource for kids and teachers alike-this will facilitate real change and maybe even shift the values of the next generation! we can all make a difference to help care for our natural world and the Green Lane Diary will help a whole new bunch of kids to realise that! :)
Irena, Sydney
In my house I try to turn the lights off when i'm not in the room, i try not to waste water, I look after my animals.
Mikaela , Mannum
I think that people should stop littering because its horrible for the animals. In fact I saw a dead seal on the beach the other day and it was wrapped up in fishing wire and netting. Poor thing.
Krystal, Mannum
I think Wazza the Wombat is cool and I got my teacher to register our school so we can learn more about the endangered animals cause global warming is bad.
Brad, Gold Coast
Hey my name is Steph and I have been having shorter showers.

My students just love the cartoons - and the content is brilliant! Thanks for producing such a fabulous resource that will stay with them forever!
Margaret, Brisbane
I save energy by having solar hot water and we water the grass with recycled water.
Jami-Lee, Mannum
We are placing weekly 'Greeny Groovers' eco friendly tips into our school familygram. We have also written and performed a rap on parade promoting 'going green'.
5A, Maleny State School
My friend Aisha and I have made a club called eehapfbf club it stands for Environmental Easy Help Association Program For Best Friends :)
Kathryn, Mackay
Since my school has signed up for the Green Lane Diary it has inspired me to help the earth by reducing my shower time to 4 minutes everyday, installing energy resistant lightbulbs in my house, turning appliances off when not in use, washing my dads car on the grass, using a water tank to water my garden, trying to persuade my parents to install a solar panel to save energy. My mum has told me about how dear water is and how important it is to not to waste it. So I thank my Principal for supporting me everytime I had an idea on how to save the earth.
Alanah, Brisbane
This term our class has started a green lane diary. In our diary we have been talking about Nude Lunches. A group in our class has presented a talk to our whole school about them. As a school we have decided at least once a week will do a Nude Lunch. This Diary has inspired Molly & I to do something about it, as well as our whole school. We are trying our best and we hope to encourage people outside of school to use more containers than plastic wraps. This diary has helped us stay on task and we have enjoyed using them. Today we have brought a rubbish free lunch.
Claire, Remi, Elise, Telicia, Molly, Roxanne and Isobel, Marymount Primary School
We have made a club called Environmental Easy Club. We include some kids from Saphire too!
Mauve Classes, Eatons Hill State School
The Green Lane Diary is a great way to express your environmental feelings. My class is taking it this term and are enjoying it, even though we're only started last week!!! I LOVE the diary and will continue to brainstorm idras with my classmates and friends!
Kara, Eatons Hill State School
i love it
Sophie , Albany Creek State High
With my Green Lane Diary I've been writing updates everyday. Everyday I've been turning off lights, cleaning up rubbish, turning of the TV and appliances, closing the fridge, and also reducing my shower time to 4 minutes instead of 10.

Our class of 5A at Maleny State School, QLD were invited on Friday 30 July 2010 to help plant native birdwing butterfly vines and other native species within our local rainforest, Marycairncross Park. We worked alongside the rangers and were very successful in creating another corridor in which this endangered butterfly can hopefully survive longer.
5A, Maleny State School
I reckon this site and the diary and everything else is soooo cool. I just wanted to say I have made up a way to help the earth and stop out power bills being so big. Well it's up and running so this is the helping system: When your the last to leave the house or your leaving a room for a while you have to turn the lights off and if you don't you have to pay 1 dollar to go to the power bill :) It's working great!!
Kathryn, Mackay
At our school we have made a wild life corridor so animals can get around the school safer we also made a frog pond and envro club come and help us after that we started the Green Lane Diary and i think it is the funnest thing I have done for the environment!
Lily , Logan
We are Year 1 students at Whitfield State School. We have been using the Green Lane Diary every week. Our school has a Rainforest Plot where we study biodiversity. We also have Storm Water Drains on two sides of our school that lead to the Great Barrier Reef. Everyday students in our class voluntarily patrol the borders of our school to make sure that no rubbish goes down to the Cairns Wetlands and through to the Reef. We have been visited by Tarangoa Blue to learn about the reef.
Thank you for sending us the diaries we are learning a lot about biodiversity and are studying cassowaries which are endemic to our area.
JNR Dr Year 1 Whitfield State School, Cairns
My school is trying to help the environment by planting a small vegie garden and soon our goal is to provide the canteen with the fruits and vegies so then we know that the younger kids are eating more healthy. I would like to thank Miss V for providing us with all the things that we needed.
Mitchell, Ipswich
On Tuesday a man came in to talk to us about sustainability. He talked about how we use so much plastic in just one minute so i decided to make a pledge to never ever, EVER buy a plastic water bottle ever again!!
Katja, Maleny
Our year level asked all classes in our school to turn off their class lights, air conditioners and computers for one hour. We asked students to donate a gold coin each and then we bought each class their very own mini recycling bin so that they can make sure that all paper waste in classes is recycled correctly.
5A, 5B and 5C, Heatley State School
I love helping the environment. Our school is even doing it as this terms topics. I wish I was the Prime Minister so i could help the environment however I wanted.
Liam, Williamstown
Our Year 6 Class have named themselves the 'Waste Warriors' and they are making a difference at our school, Tinana SS. After starting the Green Lane Diary they have pledged their commitment in front of our school parade and set some goals for their future. TSS Waste Warrior aims: We will communicate our vision and achievements to our local and school community. This will help educate our school and the community to live more sustainably. Our goal was to learn about sustainable living and our environmental footprint. To become a sustainable school - We looked at the way Australia treats its waste. There is no longer any need for any food waste to be dumped in landfill. Our aims are to improve litter awareness and recycling at Tinana State School by providing systems that are easy to use. We are improving our school's litter awareness by: 1. Addressing the school on parade each week with reduce, re-use and recycling tips. 2. Provide posters and information about litter awareness. 3. Update the school (parade and TINTAKS) on important Environmental Dates, which we hope will remind us all to think about the next generation, and our responsibilities to them. We are improving our recycling by: 1. Keeping our food scraps in GREEN buckets - as our first project we looked at ways we can recycle our fruit and veg waste at fruit break time. Our Motto is: REMEMBER! Every action helps! You CAN make a DIFFERENCE! Let's keep our school BEAUTIFUL!
Mrs Yates, Tinana State School
Our year level has organised a tree planting day with a local organisation. It will take place at the start of term 4. We will be planting the trees on the school grounds. Each year 5 student will plant 2 or 3 trees.
5A, 5B, 5C, Heatley State Primary School, Townsville
The Green Cross website is really funky…what a brilliant design!
Freya, Planet Patrol, Castle Hill, NSW
I have a dream of keeping the environment clean and safe. Some people say my plans to do so are impossible but, I know that I can help make a difference to help teach people how to keep our world a beautiful place.
Mihaela, Corinda
We are recycling, have solar power, reusing water bottles, have a water tank, short showers. Lot's going on.
Alex, St Joseph's, Corinda
Thanks to you I've been cooling the earth by turning off every thing that has not been in use and lots of other things.
Samantha, Yarilee, Hervey Bay
I am starting a environment club and people in my school sign up. We are stopping plastic bottles being sold in our tuckshop plus we are the ones who pick up rubbish when seen! Thanks for sending the Green Lane Diary and the booklet. I would of never started otherwise. (year 6)
Georgina, Deeragun, Townsville
My friends and I have formed a group and we are called The Green Girls. We care for the environment and are trying to get others to save our planet by reducing our use of plastic bags. I have written an article about what plastic is doing to the environment and my teacher really likes it. Tahlia and the GREEN GIRLS.
Tahlia, Saint Anthony's Catholic College, Townsville
When I go shopping for groceries I always take my Green bags, I have showers that are 3-4 mins long, I always give my scraps to my dog Lacey, I wash the dishes by hand and I take my dog for walks instead of watching T.V or playing on the computer. When I am at home I read or draw instead of wasting electricity and I am trying to convince my Dad to get Solar Panels.
Abbey, Mountain Creek State School
I think that the green lane diary is great for teaching kids about the environment and how to preserve it. I have been doing lots of things to help like picking up my own rubbish and others', turning off appliances at the wall like the kettle and gaming consoles. I am also starting up a veggie patch and a worm farm and i also have energy efficient globes.
Mitchell, Mountain Creek State School
I want to help the Earth so it can live as long as possible. To do this we need to stop Global Warming and all the other problems! There is a lot to do but if we all do just 1 thing it will help a lot! So lets get to work saving our Planet. Most of my class fills in their diary every day with the things they are each doing. I do it every day and make sure that I do more than 2 things! Keep on it Green Lane!
Kiara, Yarrilee State School, Hervey Bay, QLD
I think the Green Lane Diary is good for us kids to learn so that we now know how to save energy and water.
Abby, Greenslopes State School
At our school tuck-shop we are using palm oil, which means Orangutans and the forests they live in are being destroyed. So a group of friends and I, we talked to the Deputy Principal who said that he would get us into the tuck-shop to see how many more things that we knew about had palm oil in it. He said he would do this if we could get his attention so we created a power-point presentation and showed it to him. He is now letting us into the tuck-shop at a quarter to 12 this Friday. This is only a little battle for us so far in this war. We are not giving up. No way!
Annalise, St Mary's Primary School, Ipswich, QLD
We are growing veggies to supply to our school tuck-shop.
Charlotte, St Mary's Primary School, Ipswich, QLD
I got a standby eliminator.

I think that this is a great opportunity to save the world and animals. Thank you. All of my class loves this website we have a lot of fun and think that we all can change the world. My friend also has sent you a message. I am also part of the Green Girls group! We have written an article and made a few posters. The posters are going up around the shops and the article we are sending in for the newspaper so keep an eye out for it.
Morgan, Saint Anthony's Catholic College, Townsville
140 year 7 students at our school planted 2 trees in the school grounds. GO GREEN!!
Morgan, Mazenod College, Kalamunda, Perth
The years 5 and 6 at our school are planning and preparing a garden with sustainable/native plants that are suitable for our school. We will be put into 5 groups: philanthropy, land care and research, media, blogging and finance. Each group is responsible for one part of the project. We are all very excited about the task! We also have been looking into Green Lane Diary and this has inspired us to use more sustainable practices at home and at school! Thanks!!
Kate, Sarah, Isla and Serena, St Johns Primary School, Heidelberg, Melbourne
I am very environmental because i have 50 seconds showers and I do not use plastic. I only have showers twice a week and as I said, for 50 seconds. From Amy
Amy, Queensland
I save water. I have turned off the radio, the lights and the T.V.
Oscar, Yeeronpilly, Greenslopes
I am doing my bit for sustainability at home. What I did was to make a schedule. Mum and I made some cards that tell us what to do for the Earth. Every day Mum and I pick out a card and it tells us what to do for that day. This is to help us have a sustainable home and save our planet. The things on the card may just be something as easy as, turn off the power at the wall, or turn off the tap so it is not dripping. Just little things like this is all or world needs.
Jasmin, Brisbane, QLD
For this term our class is studying sustainability! We get to do fun projects for example right now our class is putting posters up around the school and designing houses! Our class is convinced that everyone needs to be a lot CLEANER and to do that we need to be GREENER! Come on we can do it and we just need to get going!
Ella, Brisbane, QLD
I have been more careful when it comes to recycling at home and how much water I use.
Brodie, Greenslopes, Brisbane
Hi my name is Chloe and I turn the lights off when my mum and I watch Masterchef!!! :-)
Chloe, Greenslopes, Brisbane
I am loving doing the Green Lane Diary and I am having so much fun trying to plan out what to do for my school. I hope everyone else is achieving great goals as I am. I also love the characters and I love how green lane diary has endangered animals as their characters. Also, I have just gone on the assembly to talk about the environment and how we have to help in every way we can. For my school I have decided to reduce worldwide pollution from plastic water bottles. They have even been banned in some countries. I have started a leadership environmental project. I am making a stand for the environment. To use NO more plastic bottled water for 1 month. Every Tuesday afternoon I will come to see if the classes have any disposable bottles if they don't I will give the class a sticker on my chart but if they don't then I cannot give a sticker. It is a team effort makes sure you have NO Bottled water disposable bottles. There are three stickers each class has to collect in 1 month.
Vienna, St Joseph's, Corinda
The Green Lane Diary has encouraged my whole household to make a difference. We have started filling our yard with trees, veggie gardens and flower beds. I ended up persuading my dad to put in some solar panels and we're getting more put in next month. The Green Lane Diary has made me realise how much more we can do for our earth and also that even if we make small changes, the end result will be worth it.
Jeanie, Mountain Creek State School, QLD
I think that helping our environment is a great thing but we need to do a lot more to help it. We could improve it by saving water, not wasting electricity and recycling scrap paper. We could also help by planting more trees.
Annie, Queensland
A friend and I are recently started up a project on how to keep the environment green. We are gathering footage of us riding our bikes to school, planting a garden, eating organic food for a week, making a poster out of recycled paper talking about the environment etc.
Ben, Mountain Creek State School, QLD
My name is Omelia and every morning and every night when I brush my teeth I make sure I turn the tap off when I don't need it. Most weekends I walk along this little beach out the back and grab a few pieces of rubbish because there are a lot. I also either walk or bike to school everyday and that's how I make a difference.
Omelia, Mountain Creek State Primary School, QLD
Ever since I heard of this Green Lane Diary I have been doing the best I can to save the planet such as recycle, plant trees, water the grass, I picked fruit of the trees instead of drive to the shop and just little things like 3 minute showers. I think that the Green Lane Diary is very inspiring for kids and even for adults if they had one. I believe that the diary is one of the best things and encouraging things in the world.
Zachary, Mountain Creek State School, QLD
At school we are turning off lights in all our classrooms and we are also making a veggie patch.
Jacob, Yarrilee State School, Hervey Bay, QLD
This year for our Grandparents Day the students in this class prepared Extreme Weather Lists for each Grandparent. We attached a magnet to the back of the list so it could be placed on the fridge. We included all the essentials and then each of us thought of something personal for either Grandma or Grandpa to put into their special box to take with them. It was great! Our grandparents were very interested in what we were doing.
Year 5 students , St Pius X School Salisbury Qld
We are holding a NUDE FOOD day on the 31st of August. The whole school is involved in one a term. This term the class is creating flyers for around the school so that parents and students will be aware of it. This will also be advertised in our weekly NEWSLETTER. We will select two people in the class to talk to the whole school at our weekly assembly. We are trying to get some stickers that suggest 'sustainability' or 'eco friendly' or even have 'Nude food' on them.
Year 5 students, St Pius X Salisbury, QLD
Well I am having a lot of fun with the green lane diary because while you're doing it you learn things that you would never think about! And the best thing is you have fun and know that what your doing is something not only thoughtful but something that won't just help you learn but helps other learn too! Also, all people should think about the people who don't have water and electrical supplies because some people are struggling from drought or it's just too much on the bills which they cannot afford! So we are lucky to live in a country like Australia!
Amaya, St Josephs Primary, Corinda
I own about a million recycled things like a chip-packet bracelet, a few shirts, pants, skirts and dresses from Vinnies (not really recycled but second hand, plus I've donated stuff to them as well!) and second hand jewelry!
Lily, Greenslopes State School
I do not turn on lights during the day. I make compost umm? umm? and I have short showers. I open windows so I do not use air con. I carpool to school and I keep the curtains closed to to keep the warmth in
Theo, Greenslopes State School
Hello, I have adopted an orangutan for $55 at the Yandina markets and bought merchandises there as well. I have emailed my friends to tell them about the website (www.australianorangutanproject.com). I'm trying to get a speech together for my class to listen to about orangutans and ask them if they would like to adopt one too. Also I have asked my parents if I could email the council about labeling and stopping some of the palm oil problems. Last week I did 67 things to help the environment in my green lane diary. Speak to you soon.
Amy, Buderim Mountain State High School
My project is to build a sustainable house with recycled features.
Joseph, St Johns Primary School, Heidelberg
This week all the students in our block started to clean up all the garden beds around our Admin block and tuck-shop. We will be working on these garden beds for the next 6 weeks. We are working with our groundsman and we are eventually going to plant fruit trees. The fruit from these trees will then be used in our healthy eating sessions and for our tuck-shop. Bye from all the 5/6 students in H Block at Heatley.
Block H, Heatley State School
Lately we have been learning about the environment: biodiversity, conservation, ecosystems etc. I have realized that a lot of birds are close to endangered or are being killed, so I am thinking about making a bird house for my school.
Dylann, Wattle Grove
I love the Green Lane Diary. It lets me express myself and lets me explain how I feel about the environment. GO GREEN LANE!
Christian, Mazenod Collage
We are looking at all the bush land around the school as we are learning about biodiversity. Since the start of this term we have also been recycling, saving power and lots more. Green Lane Diary is an awesome way to start thinking about the environment. I wish I had started earlier!
Wade, Mezenod Collage
I found out that a cockroach can live for 9 days without its head!
Harrison, Mazenod Collage
At my school, we have been learing about the environment. Last Friday we went to the Zoo to learn about the classifications of animals. At the moment we are also making podcasts about the environment in class.
Tom, Mazenod Collage
Dear Minister Garrett, Our class has been learning about energy resources and how important it is to save energy and save our planet. As a class we decided that we would have an Earth Hour on Wednesday 21st September between 2:15pm and 3:15 pm. We have contacted many schools in and around our area to ask them to join in with our Earth Hour. So far we have had replies from 8 schools. All these schools will join us and switch off the lights on this day. We believe that many other schools will also join in. As well as contacting schools we have made posters to put up in the local community. We have put posters in shops, doctor surgeries, Kindergartens, play centers and many other places. We have also put small notes into our neighbors letterboxes telling them about our earth hour and asking them to please join us in saving our planet. One other way of advertising our Earth hour was in the local Leader Newspaper. We had an article in the paper about the frog bog that we created at our school to save the local frogs and in the article our Earth Hour was mentioned.
Kind Regards,
The students in 2B, St. Joseph The Worker Primary School
Thanks to you guys , I have been making sure that the rubbish lying around on street goes in the bin! Thanks guys!
Jamon, Mazenod Collage
After joining the Green Lane Diary, our class formed an environment club called E Fighters. We have a mascot called Eco and each week he teaches the students of our school a new environmental message. We give out Eco awards to reward the classes that are helping the environment and Eco Merits to students that pick up rubbish. We have started a worm farm and a compost bin and we have campaigned to get our own community garden. We make skipping ropes, bracelets and dolls out of reused shopping bags and we weave scrap fabric into rugs. All of this because we were inspired by the Green Lane Diary.
